At the risk of losing his fiancé, and with protests from his parents and friends, ALEX POKERMAN, a young successful banker in the USA, decides to embark on a journey into the unknown in search of his ancestral roots in Africa, precisely Ghana.

SYNOPSIS

Through carefully preserved family history, the Pokerman family trace their ancestral roots to the Ashanti kingdom in Ghana. Through the documents, Alex Pokerman finds out that his ancestors originated from Obuasi in the Ashanti kingdom. He also finds out that his ancestor, before being taken into slavery, was domiciled in a bushy village along the west coast of Ghana called SUKURA. In addition, he also has in his possession the replica of a MEDALION which was kept by his great-great-great grandfather.

Burning with overwhelming desire to trace his ancestral roots to the very house from which his ancestor originated, a quest that has been with him since his early years, Alex decides that time is now to find his people and let his mind and his soul rest in peace. His fiancé, SARAH, who does not agree with Alex on his proposed adventure, breaks up with him. Alex also encounters discouraging advice from his friends and parents, but he brush all aside to follow his dreams.

On his way to Ghana, Alex make friends in the airplane with Andy, a Ghanaian student now domiciled in the US who was on his way to Ghana for some research work pertaining to the slave trade. He also make acquaintances, albeit accidentally, with ADEPA, a royal princess from the Ashanti kingdom.
In Ghana, Alex embarks on the arduous assignment of connecting the dots of his ancestor’s journey from Obuasi to Sukura in a reversal mode. He is aided by AKWASI, a tour guide, FRED, a cab driver, PINTO, the “CONNECTION MAN” from Sukura, and of course, Andy.

But as soon as Alex and co begin the search, they encounter one problem upon another. Finding someone who had any knowledge about his ancestor’s supposed stay at Sukura becomes a difficult task. And getting someone to identify the medallion and probably connect it to a source was also a problem.
In frustration, Alex even allowed himself to be taken to see a soothsayer who could not offer any solution to their assignment.

Aside the disappointments, Alex and friends also find themselves in various life-threatening encounters. For instance, after their encounter with the soothsayer, they escaped kidnapping by the skin of their teeth when they inadvertently aroused the displeasure of some village ritualists. Alex and Andy are also attacked by armed robbers after they had gone to change some dollars for Ghana cedis at a black market forex bureau.

Meanwhile, Alex and Adepa’s friendship has grows to a level beyond mere platonic. And this infuriates Adepa’s boyfriend, KOFI. Kofi, unknown even to Adepa, happens to be a drug lord with a very dirty mind. On seeing that he was losing the battle for Adepa to Alex, Kofi organizes his criminal gang and gets Alex kidnapped. They send him to BIMBO PLAZA, a popular hideout for drug pushers and prostitutes, as well as other criminals. Kofi intends to dispatch Alex to meet his ancestors and bury him somewhere around Bimbo Plaza in the small of dawn when patrons have left. But through the help of YOUNG BOGA, a teenage drug courier, and Pinto, the police are able to free Alex and arrest Kofi and his hoodlums at Bimbo Plaza.

As luck would have it, Pinto finally finds an Oldman at Sukura who says he knows the story about the man from Obuasi. At the same time, Adepa’s grandma also tells them she knows about the “Pokermans” from Obuasi.

So finally, the dust settles, and Alex goes to Obuasi and finds the very house of his ancestor. He receives a grand welcome, and later he is honoured by the king.
